Hi. Just wondering which one of these will get me better fps and general performance in games? I have an X850XT but can now find it for about the same price as the X1800XL. What other new technologies does it have other tham SM 3.0? Is there a really obvious answer to this question? Thanks

Your board supports PCI-E? If so, and you can, snag it. The preformance increase can't hurt, and (I believe) Cleeve can give you some stories on its
overclocking potential.

The X1800XL is crossfire ready which means you get a boost if you are looking on buy two. If the X1800XL is going into the single card slot then lets look at the numbers

The X850XT is faster then the X1800XL.

Take a look at ATI's site and compare the two. Now past the X1800XL and you get great gains in PCI-E.

If you are asking which card is better, it is the x1800xl, unless you are talking about an x850xt platinum edition, in which case the x1800xl is still better but the PE has SM3.0.

backwards man, x850 is only sm 2.0... regardless of PE or not. the 1800 is the one w/ sm 3.0

get the 1800, it is the newer arch and driver revs will show more improvements there, the 850 is past its peak now.

My mistake, but I have seen both of the cards performing, and the x1800xl outdoes the x850xt and the PE, and the x1800xl does have SM3.0, but why not go for an x1800xt for 30-40$ more?

The only thing I want to add, is the darn noise on the stock X1800XL - if you can get one with aftermarket cooler, go for it. But be aware of that damn hiss in the stock cooler...

Thanks for the advice. What would u guys do? i bought the x850xt (yes its PCI-E) recently but then discovered that i maybe should have bought something else. bearing in mind the money i would have to spend would be the money i could get for my x850xt plus a few extra bucks.
