So i just put this system together and for some reason is very slow!

Specs:
PD 805 @ 3.4ghz
2gb DDR2
Asus P5LD2 mobo
Asus EN7900GT (stock)
Thermaltake 430w psu

Ran 3Dmark 05 and only got 2900
Doom 3 @ 1024 x 768 4xAA only get around 25fps and in places drops to 10fps!
System shuts halfway through 3Dmark 06..

Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks[/b]

maybe its not on 16x pci-express... try seeing if that makes a diff, my second guess would be heat because it could be throttling the cpu and maybe even the gpu (although i duno if they underclock or not)... and 3rd guess is power supply isnt powerful enough... this is unlikley because it seems to be enough, unless u have like 10 case fans and 15 harddrives... my idea is take off side panel and put a window fan on next to it and see if it helps at all... come check in with results

almost make sure all drivers are installed... i just thought of that, thats most likely the problem if ur comp is cool... check ur gpu driver version, sound, motherboard, and any other components... after all this chcek back with results

The only thing I could maybe see it being is your PSU; you are overclocking a good amount so that may have something to do with it.
Your system should perform much better.

Ive got forceware 84.66 installed and latest mobo drivers etc..
The pci express is set on 16x.
I even tried turning it back to stock speed and resetting the bios to default, so im gonna try a new psu today and see if that works.

It Shuts down...turns off?
My first thought is the PSU.

My "cheep-ass" XFX 7900GT with coolbits gives me 3DMark05 score of 9732 and without a volt mod.

People will speed enough money on a computer to go out and buy a car...but never want to get a real PSU to power it.
Spend the money and get a PC Power and Cooling PSU.

Did it run ok before you OC'd the system?

Id say its the psu. If you have had to start over volting the processer as you jump up to 200 watts idle and 360 under load. One must also rember that a psu is usually 70-80% efficent. So you are near or exeading the max of that psu.

No, i've only just built it so its a fresh install of xp pro sp2, up to date drivers etc..

Just installed a new 500w psu with a triple 12v rail and it doesnt seem to have made any difference! Its very annoying cause i know its capable of much better

So what MB do you have?
Hope you don't have an ASUS board built over the past year....they have a problem with the company they bought thier caps from and suffer alot of failures.

EDIT: I see it is an ASUS...but is still running.
Have you installed the MB drivers? If not they will kick your fps up about 2 X's! That (if the issue) would bring you into the ballpark as far as your low fps.

EDIT-EDIT: Do you still get shutdowns with the new PSU?

Heat problem in the case need better air flow
May 21, 2006 10:17:42 PM

Airflow is fine..
Gave in and took it in to get a 'tech' guy to look at but I've got a feeling its just going to be wasted money.
Whats weird is i only get a 2850 score in 3Dmark 05 but get 2400 in 06..
And Race Driver 3 runs fine at the highest settings.. But BF2 runs like a a jittery old man

whats ur ping in bf2... my friend has a very powerful system (3800+ 2x 7800gts 1gb memory) and for some reason in the bf2 update he got some kinda ping bug and its choppy as jesus... his ping reads over 200 and his framerate wont go over 15, even with sli off... bf2 is a relitavly buggy game, try it in single player and see if its still crap...

Try Memtest to test your memory for errors; if it is non brand ram that could be your problem. Also what speed is the ram running at, if you buy a nice system and buy crappy ram that can screw the whole system up.

Yeah I had that problem; RMAed my RAM I had like 400 errors on one of my corsair dimms which I wasn't happy to find. Battlefield 2 picks up on all RAM problems.
May 22, 2006 2:37:16 AM

I tried it in single player, same thing happened..
I hadn't thought of the ram
May 22, 2006 9:38:01 PM

Have you had any luck?
May 22, 2006 9:48:49 PM

I gave in and got a techy to have a look at it, even though its gonna cost me i also don't wanna spend days messing around with it trying to adjust settings and drivers etc when it does nothing.. but thanks for all the advice
May 22, 2006 9:54:35 PM

Man I feel like an idiot! He just called me and said the cpu cooler was only making 1/4 contact so it kept throttling right back...
May 22, 2006 9:56:56 PM

thought the temps were normal... even idle temps would be over 65 if only 1/4th was touching... oh well at least its solved now :p

I knew it was an heat issue, I had the same problem with a computer I just built for my son the case was so stuffed packed and when I put the 6800ge vcard in{by the way this is one monster of a videocard that takes lots of power}I had the very same problem he had bad performance and even to the point the machine would shut down.

I was told a computer can be no smarter than the one that built it or uses it.
May 23, 2006 10:39:59 PM

haha yeah I didn't think it would be anything so simple, anyways it only cost me 15$ and the improvements are excellent. Fast fps in every game, BF2 now doesn't drop below 60fps on max detail.
