Hi All
while trying to install a couple of programs I get the message Memory card
full or write protected.
Resco Explorer shows it about half full (130meg of files on 256 meg card).
Archived from groups: microsoft.public.pocketpc (More info?)
If this card is formated with FAT, remember that there's a limit on the
number of files on the root folder. This limit does not exist on FAT32.
Even if you have only 20MB in use, if you have reached the limit of files on
the root folder, then the applications will receive "Memory full" status
back...

Many thanks

Put the memory card into a memory card reader. Right click on that drive,
choose properties. When it says FAT it is FAT16. If it is FAT32 it says
FAT32

Make sure that is the problem. How many files/folders are in the root?
The limit is 512. If you really do have 512, probably time for some
house cleaning. You might need to show hidden files and see if some
app is filling the root up with temp files.

You can also just copy the card contents to your PC for keeping them safe
and then format the card as FAT32 with Pocket Mechanic, Storage Tools or
similar software.

If your card really reached the limit of files in the root folder, you can
create move then... For example, create a /My Documents folder and move all
non-program files there. Each program should have created its own folder
anyway. For example if you have lots of mp3, create a folder for these files
and move there.
Reformatting will require you to reinstall programs since the card will be
erased - be sure to have all installers and serial numbers you need!
