I came across this link this morning. It's amazing that this place has so many PPUs for sale and they are being sold for dirt cheap.

He's implying that PPU's are nothing more than paperweights. You know, useless.

I think he actually meant they ARE paperweights. The website is a paperweight site.

No, he agreed with knupxfon. And I know it is a paperweight site: one from the name, two from the content.

No i mean like this PhysX sucks!

PPU's are the future. Sure, we may make fun of it now as one game that sucks currently supports it, but the reality is the many, many major engines are endorsing this as a powerful tool. UT2007 and Crysis are a few of many that may even require such a card. However, because drivers are currently buggy and slow, and also because the techology is early, no performance will be seen. I also fail to feel any sorrow for anybody who is stupid enough to buy a $300 FPS reducer, just as I fail to feel sorrow for anybody who buys an FX or EE cpu, the latest and greatest video card, 4 gigabytes of RAM or anything else that is new and expensive. Let's just remember that when dual cores came out (and now) no performance in a single threaded environment, and the same is true for x64 without enhancements.

Hey, if they were under fifty dollars and ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING, I'm sure many people would buy them.

Reply to Jebazor

How much are they on these site? It's blocked by Websense here.

Which site? I have to deal with Lightspeed from time to time.

I agree, not only are they new technology, but they are adding features to your computer that it may not be able to handle. Lets see here, i want added physics to my game, but expect my frame rates to increase? Its expensive right now, but so were the dual core procs when they came out. Quad SLI is a joke right now for anyone who bought it however, in the future i can see it helping a lot. Maybe not so much with 4 7900 gtx's but with 4 newer cards. Just give PhisX some time and maybe we will see a new trend with games. Hell, id love to see great game companys working with Ageia to make games with insane Physiscs. Anyway, no use in complaining about something that is new and obviously needs to mature. Like some of the people on this forum... and my neighbors.

The first link was to a paperweight site (ha ha)

I dont think is hating the cards or the company, Its just that it was released way too early for its own good, a handful of games that support it isnt enough to make you buy a $300 PCI bottlekneck.

But I also agree that its too early to judge. But its also to early to release something that brings your comp to its knees where they would otherwise domiate.Maybe in the Dx10 generation.

People who want better quality graphics? Running at 1920x1280 with 4x AA and 8xAF drops framerates but it looks better and people spend $1200-2000 so they can do it.

I swear to god most of you people are nothing but ignorant assholes who fear change. OH GOD NO NOT PROGRESS!!! Quit your bitching and if you don't want it, don't buy and shut the fuck up. If I could afford a PPU and games supported it, but it meant getting a solid 50fps instead of a solid 100fps I'd buy one.

Its still more than playable and I get way better looking and more realistic physics. The possibilities are endless if people like most of you just shut up and let them do business instead of doing your best to drive them out of business.

Easy, easy, many people here are just waiting to see what happens, I know some people who thought that PCIe wouldn't be good at first. Today they all have PCIe and tomorrow we may all have PPU's.

Reply to Jebazor

No most people on here are saying it sucks and won't give it a chance.

I swear some of the people on these boards would complain if a company promised a device that could teleport you to Jupiter but when the device came out it could "only" teleport you to Mars.

yeah, except this device currently transports you to hell as a one way ticket =p

They sure aren't going to take their chances with what is out now, but they will in the future if PPU's become significant.

Reply to Jebazor

Well me personally I dont fear change, but change isnt always good. Plus Progress & Change are 2 very different things.

People with a PPU are reporting 15 FPS in games not 50FPS. Believe me if Running at 1920x1280 with 4x AA and 8xAF drops frames to 20FPS they wouldnt do it, theyre just mad because a product that reliefs the CPU of its PhsX duties should help,or at least not negatively affect it, after all it is $300 for a "next gen" PCI device.
But like I said before, our current systems werent ready for a PPU, maybe its just drivers, patches, windows, DX9, who knows, I sure dont, but with all new technoology we have to give it time.
People are just reporting what they see, and that is a 15FPS slide show.
