I'm almost sure I will be buying a All-In-Wonder X800 XT
but only game < 5% of the time, so I would like quiet operation
when surfing.

Anyone have any experience underclocking a x800 using
ATI software or ATItool software. How low and quiet ?

Any comments or advice on the All-In-Wonder X800 XT
would be greatly appreciated. Mainly want to play
Quake 4 in 3D - don't care about noise in 3D, but want to
quietly surf when in 2D while watching TV.

I kind of dismissed a AIW 9600 2006 Edition cause it seems
underpowered for Q4 and has some issues with AGP 4X
because no external 12v connector.

thanks

Use the latest beta version of AtiTool, set up a profile for underclocking, that has settings for clock speeds and fan speeds, save the settings you want in each profile.
Setup another for gaming, with the clock speeds you want and also fan speeds.
Also tick the box that says Lock reference divider.

Omega Drivers are good also, they are based upon the Ati ones but have been changed and tweaked. 8)
If you use the Omega drivers don't load the Ati ones, but you will need to download the WDM Integrated Driver and install separatly. It has a Control Panel of its own also.
