Wireless network browsing of file shares

Hi all,

This newsgroup has been chock full of great advice, thanks! I just had
a quick issue. I am able to connect to my wireless access point with my
Fujitsu Loox720 and browse the web, but am having some problems with
connecting to my home machine (WinXP Pro) through File Explorer. I get
the "Cannot access '\\'" error, or the "you don't have permission to
access this resource".

Does anyone have some advice for how this Should work? Should I have my
wlan setup as connecting "Work" or "Internet" in my wireless settings on
the pocketpc?

Thanks in advance!
Warren W

Have you went back to basics.....ie...made sure all network features (for
shares etc...) are set up correctly? When you enter in the share name in
explorer, are you sure you're putting in the correct sharename? What about
the correct slash :)
it should default to the correct one, at least it does on my PPC, but don't
know about yours "\\" instead of "//" ? Are you making sure that you're
putting in two (2) slashes at the beginning as above? Just go back to
basics with your network.
One thing you might try before all that (to save you time) is if you have a
firewall, make sure you have it set up right to allow traffic through/from
all your shares. I have Norton, and it is pretty straight forward as it has
a 1 specific area to go to to set it up, and it is pretty much automated
(thank goodness for me :)  ). Anyway, I hope this helps.

If you're running windows xp, also make sure that "simple file sharing" is
disabled. You can find this option under
Tools>Folder Options>View then scroll to the bottom of advanced settings.
