I have a similar post down below but things have changed. My system just crapped out on me and I need something now. My total budget (not including monitor) is about $2000. And I do game (Oblivion for instance).
The graphics card I plan on getting is
HIS Hightech H190XT512DVN Radeon X1900XT 512MB
This leaves my about $500 for a processor.
So for about 500 what process would be the best game performer?
And I plan to do minor air cooled overclocking.
I think my options are:
Intel Core Duo T2500 (with AOpen MB)
Intel Pentium D 830 Smithfield 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core (much less than 500 but that’s ok).
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo
I would also like as many parts as possible to be reusable for an upgrade 6 – 8 months from now (so I’m thinking ddr2 would be nice).
I have to start placing orders today so sorry, but I can’t wait for Conroe.
Could I get a cheep hold me over system. A cheep mother board / process to be thrown out when Conroe arrives. But with memory, hard drives and GPU I can reuse with Conroe ?
this Would be Best Choice If you Plan to throw away the Computer When Conroe Comes out.
PS. When your Throwing Away the system, Give it to me instead. I need another New computer to Fold@home 24/7..
Please! I'll Take your Throw Away System
Do you have a problem with AMD?
They are a good deal and great for gaming....
No, I have used AMD for years and the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo was one of my options. I just want to get the most for my money. And if that means throwing something away for something better in 3 months then that's what I'll do, but I need something to work with ASAP.
I'm thinking I could get something like ABIT AW8 ATX Intel Motherboard, and a Intel Celeron D 326 (the throw aways)
with (the keeps to use with Conroe) HIS Hightech H190XT512DVN Radeon X1900XT 512MB, some SATA drives and some DDR2 800 memory.
Your best option may be to go with a cheaper processor, unless you don't mind budget, with the really good graphics card you don't really need the best processor to use for only a few months.
