Why would anyone buy one of these over a more regular notebook/ultrabook or tablet. After all, those other kinds of devices actually do something. These chromebooks are just pointless.

[citation][nom]deadlockedworld[/nom]These would be great to purchase in bulk for an all wifi environment like a university campus.[/citation]

Clearly some people have different perception on studying than others. Without Windows environment any notebook, notepad or tablet is useless for studies. Unless your university accepts other non-common standards or you just get your notes in PDF format. I am still waiting for a real studies compation - i.e. sub 500 touchscreen and pen supporting Windows running x86 tablet or notebook. Until now mainly Lenovo/IBM and HP had this share and were selling for some extorted figures to business.
Back to the topic - this Chromebook is useless for other than browsing, email, some chat and fun.

Wow google really stiffing the UK on the price. Love my Nexus 7 and I wanted one of these chrome books but not at that price! I expect a small difference in price but $115 extra !!!

I wonder if Apple have a patient on screwing customers? Seems Google are starting to copy them.................
