AM2,939, WTF

Ok so I wait for AM2 for my new build....and now its out...I ma looking at the benchmarks, am2 vs 939 DDR vs DDR2...and it sucks!...most Gaming Benchmarks the 939 DDR1 beats the newer DDR2 in FPS... WTF so to me its looking like 939 would be better for gaming...but I want a PC I can update in 6 months with a new product...not somthing no longer being made....

It is a stepping stone to lower priced DDR2 and eventually, DDR3 as well. You need DDR2 running at 800mhz(effective not real) speed to exceed LL DDR 400.

Is K8L going to be a new socket or just proc? also all i was stating is that current benchies show 939 w/ ddr400 outperforms (slightly) the am2. (for now) but yes i do know that am2 is still pretty much 939

One of the down sides to having your memory controller embedded is that there will be a new socket for DDR3 for the same reasons DDR2 has a new socket over DDR1... So RAM and mobo are kind of tied together in that upgrade cycle.

Edit: Now if K8L supports DDR2 then there is a chance it could be a drop in upgrade for AM2 but if its a DDR3 only part then you will need a new socket.

So what does that mean in 6 months there will be another socket out for AMD?...I have always had intel and i want to give amd a shot...so i am just curious about this...

K8L is a new processor for AM2. It is supposed to be released next year, but it recently hit the news that it will be delayed until 2008.

K8L is a new processor for AM2. It is supposed to be released next year, but it recently hit the news that it will be delayed until 2008.Is K8L just a redesign of the K8 architecture?

You should do some reading and think on that some. Conroe is pretty exciting.
