hello
AMD is shipping the PIC computer soon -
i was wondering if anyone has used this "winxp extender" that they speak of
?
( lets you run winxp programs!)
will it work on a Dell Axim pda ?

Don't think so, they intend it to be a stand-alone computer.
So my guess the internal 'extender' will be proprietary software
unique to that device, since it has a harddrive and -much- more
RAM than a PPC. (RAM that is most likely not shared as memory for
running programs/storing user data.)

More importantly AMD's PIC has an x86 CPU. Since there's no Windows XP
software compiled to run on ARM, the extender wouldn't actually be of any
use on a PDA with an ARM CPU.

I thought it was to good to be true -

No..the OEMs need to make a pocketable device that runs WinXP. That might
actually happen. There are some very close options already. OQO, Flipstart,
Sony's U750P. If MS were to squeeze XP into the RAM/ROM typical of a PPC,
I'll be wearing a hat and raingear outside, because pigs are flying.

Not to mention that the batteries necessary to power an x86 for any
reasonable amount of time are a little heavy. Which only makes it that much
more difficult for pigs with PDAs to fly.
