Intel is going to stop discounting the OEM's, to equalize prices.

Myself, i think Intel (very confident about Core Processors) is giving DELL

a slap on the pee-pee. I know there are many OEM's that will be affected

by this, but DELL is far and way Intels biggest customer. This way they

can sort of "stick it" to DELL, and feeling secure with Cores performance,

shouldn't loose any business because of it.

With the impending lawsuit, they're likely to have to stop the discounting

anyways, so they may as well make a "statement" that (because of being

market-wide) won't look like any sort of retaliation. "Hey, you guys are

gonna testify against us....No more gravy for you". I'm probably wrong,

but if anyone can afford to "prove a point"....it's Intel.

Wholly, molly -- did you see the price list -- Intel is making it a point that competition is good and giving AMD exactly what they said the consumer wanted -- lower prices :)

I am not too sure AMD can answer this one.

AMD may not be able to sell a processor in Q4, darn those prices are absurdly low. Even as crappy as the P4 is, their not so crappy that getting a dual core 820 CPU at 93 bucks is not something to pass up.

Dang.

Amazing...You can get a P4 cheaper than a Sempron...Bad thermals, or not.

Yes, and with that sort of pricing for the mainstream Conroes, it seems like they're seriously out to kick AMD out of business...
While right now this is good for us all, as we can get incredibly high performance CPUs for the price of a midrange video card, as soon as Intel gets back in a fully commanding position, the prices will inevitably rise..

Well with the price of the conroe's (if they keep to that list) I dont see much need for discounts lol I just want a cheap Conroe to OC till it screams for mercy :)

True....then we ALL will be complaining about why processors are getting

more expensive again.

Yeah not only is the price and performance realy great but from what I can tell the OC potential is nearly too good to be true. At least if the web pages I have seen are to be believed :)

I don t think amd will go out of buissness. If they do. It will prices of Intel go high and even intel Fanboys would hate that.

AMD cannot go out of buisness at this point. They have too much invested and have started making a lot more than they ever had previously. I mean common with 8xx series chips selling for so much they will have more than enough resources to stay alive and kicken. They have been in much worse posistion's before.

Intel can say whatever they like, but you and I will never really know who is paying what for their chips.

Anyone think this is beacuse Dell is gonna start using AMD parts?

I dont know about Dell usng AMD parts. Possibly, however, with their recently acquired alienware they wold have to at least use Intel for that or else they will get about as much from alienware as they did the xps.

I was at a Dell conference recently and one thing that was pointed out was that the gaming industry this year will be bigger than all other sports figures combined. Gives you an idea of where they might be heading. Anyone going to fragopolooza this year? :D

Intel is taking a big risk to gain back the market.

By lowering the price, they are essential trying to gain the market back. The problem is thier 800/900 Pentium Ds are now even less attractive, which means that they have "given up" on these CPUs. This is a big loss if they still have a lot in stock.
