I'm looking to build a four screen setup, with 20inch displays, for non-gaming use. Like as quiet a system as possible, with good graphics quality.

Thinking about a PCIe board with two medium speed NVidia cards, preferably fanless. Processor will be dual core Athlon.

Anybody built anything similar or got any suggestions?

Since this is not being used for gaming, Intel dual-cores are cheaper. It would be best to wait for Conroe to come around but if you need the system now, the prices of the p-D's are great!

As for video card, you don't need super performance right? The most I would spend would be two Nvidia 7600GS fanless for $100 each. If you want to go cheaper, get two X550s or 6500s or X700s or 6600s. It really doesn't matter that much since it's not for gaming. Just choose the cheapest out of the four.

Are the monitors widescreen? It would be weird if they were...I think you should get 4 19" inchers instead

happy shopping :p

I've got two Iiyama 20 inch crt's, and a Dell 20 inch lcd - just need to add another 20 inch Dell.

Nice big desktop for work and for photoshop.

The Matrox setup doesn't really do the job - I'm really looking for four 20inch screens at 1200x1600 across my desk in a line - in other words 1200 high x 6400 long.

About as extreme as a gaming machine, just different priorities.

You might be able to use Matrox's Dualhead2go... But for your setup, you'd need two of them w/ a dual-output video card..
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/offhome/dh2go/home.cfm

Since the Dualhead2go works by showing the system that its 1 big monitor at 2560x1024, using 2 of them with 4 monitors would give you the 5320x1024... its not 1200 though.

You also might be able to get an SLI motherboard and stick 2 video cards w/ dual outputs for a total of 4 monitor outputs and just hook up 4 monitors. Then windows/video chip manufacturer's drivers should be able to configure it however you want.
