I have a Venice 3700 .. 1 gig ram .. and a plain straight 6800 128 AGP (non-gt) thats getting old now.. which was not one of the ones that could be unlocked to 16 pipes. my board has both PCI or AGP

the problem is I am in the position that the 7900/7800's are a little out of my range as far as price (299) ,, where as I could get a 7600GT (169).. but that is the problem,, would I notice a 200 dollar enough difference from going from a 6800 to a 7600 GT? or do I just continue to wait it out? or is there an ATI solution? or maybe an overclock solution with some other card..

what do you guys think..thanks

ull notice a pretty decent jump because ur 6800 was pretty weak... the 7600 is a decently fast card... i havnt looked at benchmarks in a while but i think the 7600gt is a bit faster than a 6800gt... IMO id save look around for extra money and get a 7900gt, thats a huge jump. also try ebay for old 7800gt's for sale, people might be trying to get rid of them for cheap to get a 7900

I was reading some other post.. I guess Evga has some kind of trade up program?? lol if they do maybe ill get a 7600 GT then goto a 7900

ok now I am confused,,, I read thier FAQ on it and as far as I can tell , if I buy it from one of thier recomended sources, and keep all the material in good condition, and before 90 days send the reciept and card in, I get basicly a full refund toward another card.. ..

so for example, I buy a 7600 GT for 200,, I can send it in and for 100 dollars get a 7900 GT I thought this was correct?

You're going to have to pay eVGA some money, like $50 (don't know how much) to get a jump from 7600 to 7900. But the step-up program is pretty good.

Indeed :-D

Yes, so you end up paying $300, which you can just buy a 7900GT from newegg or whatever.

I wish ASUS would do that with my X600 :(. But even if they had a program like that, my card probably wouldn't qualify because it's an OEM card.

We all wish more manufacturers had a tradeup program :-D

Hell, I wish someone would trade their X1800XT for my X600 *dreaming*

As for the trade up idea, first, you've only got 90 days to make the trade. Second, it ends up costing you more money then just buying the better card in the first place. Why not just save and add to your money for a couple months and buy the better card in the first place? Who knows, the price might even come down on the 7900 GT while you wait.
