Well, I was having problems with my comp failing to POST, so I brought it to the distributor to have my motherboard tested for issues. Turns out it was the PSU, an Antec 480W TruePower 1.0 . I was advised to either change to Verudium and some other brand or upgrade to TruePower 2.0 and get a 500++ W psu. Edit: forgot to add this. My PSU has a burnt smell. And they actually tested my gfx card, sound card, memory, mobos and finally the PSU.

Does anyone know why the suggestion? I know little about PSUs btw. According to the extreme PSU calculator, the PSU wattage is around 420w and that's even more confusing.

Edit: If 480w isn't enough, after I rma my psu, I might sell it off and get a different psu. Which brand, though, I haven't decided yet.

Athlon A64 3000+
Abit AV8
PowerColor 9600 Pro
Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 1GB
WD SATA 80 GB + WD IDE 160 GB
Benq 1620 Pro + LG DVD-Rom
Lian-li PC-7B
Antec TruePower 480W
Audigy 2 Value

Tha PSU should be more than enough for your setup. My setup (listed in my signature) draws much more power than yours and is perfectly stable (overclocked ) with my current psu (460 W Vantec). I used a much cheaper PSU rated at 400W on my system and I overclocked even with that one and I had no problems. So I don't think your PSU is the problem, especially an Antec because they make very good PSU's. So the suggestion they made is clearly wrong or they just blame something that works fine because they weren't able to find out what's the problem. I think that even if you change the PSU you will have the same problem or maybe your PSU is faulty and needs to be replaced but not by a more powerful PSU, I can tell you that for sure.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm... sorry, forgot to mention that my PSU has a burnt smell(barely noticeable). And they actually tested my gfx card, sound card, memory, mobos and finally the PSU. The other parts of my system smell perfectly fine.

Oh well, I see. Then, I shall just RMA my PSU for now.

I agree.I have the exact same PSU, with an overclocked Prescott :o , and

i have absolutely no problems. You might try resetting the BIOS. The

PSU could be bad, but i doubt it...If it is, an RMA should end the problem.

Oh gods... no!!! :D They tested each of the parts to some other rig they have... lol. I mean, I took a good smell at each of the parts just to be sure nothing else was smelling funny. :P

Yep, gotta bring it to the distributor then.

*sighs* It's all right. I'll bring the PSU to the distributor come Monday and see what happens. :P
