memory timings

ok..so i have asus a7n8x deluxe mb...and i have crucial ram. the reg timings for the ram is 8-3-3-2.5 and it wont boot up my comp with those timings..it sits at the windows xp loading screen for who knows how long...but if i tweak the timings a little to 7-2-2-2.5....everything runs fine. im a noob when comes to ocing...but with these timings am i getting more performance or less or none at all? and if there is a way to fix this...let me know...thanks

That's actually better timings. For RAM timings, lower is better generally.

If it works at 7-2-2-2.5 great.
