I'm building a new sysem but can't decide which hard drive to take: WD raptor 74 Gb 10000 rpm or WD 250 Gb 7200 rpm ? I will use the pc mostly for gaming.
I heard good things about the raptors but they are expensive and I don't want to spend more than $230 so the 74 Gb seems to be the only option. but is a hard drive of 74 Gb enough ?
Alternatively, I was thinking about the WD 250 which runs at 7200 rpm.
What are your thoughts ?

The 74GB Raptor740GD is ~$140 and the WD 250GB (you want the Caviar SE16, WD2500KS is the model of that I have) is about $90. So do the smart thing and get both, put the OS and apps on the Raptor and your documents on the 250GB unit. I did *exactly* that and it is great.

However, if you can only buy one, get the 250GB unit. It's about 85% as fast as the Raptor but much bigger. Much quieter too- the Raptor isn't noisy, but you can hear it while the Caviar is darn near silent.

74GB is more than enough to store all your OS, applications and games. If you plan on storing things downloaded from P2P(*hint hint*) that won't be enough.
According to Microsoft if I want to run Vista I'll need
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.

so 74 Gb seems not be enough. ?

A 74 Gb raptor and a 250 gb hdd would be ideal but unfortunately i don't have the budget right now
