This is my first build. I was wondering if I should get an AMD or an Intel. I know the sockets aren't compatible, so whatever company I choose I'll be stuck with and I want to make the best decision for the future.

Do you have time to wait until July 23rd? That's when the question of "AMD oR Intel?" will really matter

Unofficially, yes, Wait for the first week of June to know if Intel Officially announces the "Core 2 Duo"

Wait for Conroe, System will be available on June 23rd. Individual CPU should be available in July.

Hmm I think it is unlikely that systems will be available on June 23rd. Unless you meant Woodcrest, but I seriously doubt he will be buying one of those systems unless he really is Bill Gates, heh.

Anyways, yes if you can wait until the end of July you will be able to get a processor (2.4GHz Conroe) that consistantly beats todays top of the line processors for 1/4 the cost.

Or a system (2.6GHz Conroe) that destroys current top of the line processors for 1/2 the cost.

Or a system (2.93GHz Conroe) that completely destroys current top of the line build for about the same cost as today's systems.

If you need to buy a machine today, your best option is an X2 or FX-62 from AMD.
