Hello folks,

I am using an intel D915PBL mobo. Currently it is equipped with a 3.2GHz Prescott P4. This is a BAD cpu, thermal issues all the way. My board is relatively limited in what cpu's it can hold in it's LGA775 socket: P4, P4 Extreme and celeron.

I have been looking at some of the 600 series pentiums, namely the 660. However I have noted you can get smithfield 660's. I was wondering if my board would support a smithfield 660? The intel site says my mobo will support the whole 600 series but does not specify if it would be prescott, smithfield or both.

Also am I going down the wrong path and should I ditch this board? Do not have much spare funds so was hoping to get some life back into my existing setup for as cheap as possible.

As always and advice will be much appreciated

You can get some 6x1 P4. This is Cedar Mill CPU the new 65nm P4. With 915 you can't get dual core and the 6x0 series are prescott with 2048kB Cache.

Smithfield is dual core and are 8x0 series not 600.

Have a read through the overclocking section if you want some more life from your system.
