Help me please :(
I am building a new system with Athlon 64 3200+ on a Epox 9NPA+Ultra
for gaming, internet, office app.and occasionaly video editing (not professional)
and web design.
The competitors are:
BFG geForce 7600 GT OC 256MB
ATI Radeon X858XT Platinum
I'm outside US and here the price is the same for both these video cards.
which is better, please?

3.0 is better lightning (I think). It used to be all the rage but I am not sure the real implications are that important.

The Radeon X850 should give more frames per second.

The frames per second is similar in both the X850 XT and 7600 GT. They trade blows depending on the game, but they are usually very close.

SM 3.0 really doesn't have too many practical applications you'd notice. The one thing thay do offer is the ability to display a new form of HDR called 'OpenEXR' that is found in some newer titles.

The X850 XT can't use the 'OpenEXR' method of HDR, although it can use older forms of HDR (Valve's source engine games like Counter-Strike: source use older HDR methods that the X800 series can do)

HDR is very pretty though, and in new titles like 'Oblivion' that use OpenEXR HDR, it's a really nice feature. ALthough it uses alot of processing power and slows the 7600 GT down noticably when enabled.

Considering he said platinum I take it he means X850XTpe. In that case I'd say the ATI would win more often and by larger margins than it loses. Platinum makes it harder chocie for me, and I think I'd grab the ATI. Plain XT I'd go with the 7600GT, although I think at stock speeds it's a probably bit slower. Something about the best of a generation (Ti4600, 9700P,9800XT, X850XTpe, etc.) that gives it the extra ooh wow it was the best nod. I was kinda surprised to see Digit-life give a 6800U OC a lead over the reference 7600GT in almost every game at every res. And I've always felt X850XTpe > 6800U for sure. Of course I haven't been lucky enough to test and OC a 7600GT either, so maybe the choice would be easier then. Both good choices, I wouldn't fault him for buying either.

Thanks everybody!
but which is better for my rig:

Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
Epox 9NPA+Ultra
Corsair 2x512 PC3200(400MHz) 2-3-3-6-1T
wd Caviar 250GB SATA150 16MB SE
NEC ND 3550A

if the Case/psu are Antec Performance TX1088AMG /Antec TruePower 2.0 480W
Thanks again :)

The right answer: Neither; a X1800GTO can be had on newegg for $194. The GTO is easily better than the 850 and is very close to the 7600. But the GTO wins by a slight but noticable margin in most games and benchmarks

Not necessarily the right answer... depends if he wants to overclock or not.

From what I've seen the 7600 GT will stand toe to toe with an X1800 GTO, beating it in at least half of the benches - usually a bit more - for less money.

The X1800 GTO is only a better choice if overclocking, where it runs away with the win.

:?
but the BFG one is not already overclocked? This is not a pros?
I'm a newbie and I don't think i'm able to do this(OCing) :(

Yes, the BFG is 'factory overclocked' but it's not overclocked all that much.

If you wanted to overclock the card manually, you'd get much better results from the X1800 GTO.

But if you're not comfortable with that, I'd go with the 7600 GT over an X1800 GTO. And like Paul said, the X850 XT PE is a good choice too, you really can't go wrong with either.

I believe the X850 XT might use the most juice but I'm not sure.

The 7600 won't require a dedicated power cable, the X850 XT will for sure. Make sure you have a decent 450+ watt name-brand power supply.

If i'll change the combo Antec performance TX 1088 AMG with the cheaper
case Termaltake VB1000SNS and I'll put inside it the Tagan TG 480-U22,will be better?

Thank's Cleeve for your good temper :)

Keep in mind that the 7600GT is cooler (in temps) and quieter, so try and get that...

X850XT looks good though...perhaps you can put it in a SFF case with a window so people can see it? lol

Get the 7600GT ;)
