An ole Athlon Xp box is going bad, need to replace whole thing.
Thinking of going Socket 939 mobo and CPU but:
It and most other are a 64 bit setup!
Will Windows 2000 on cuurrent 64bit AMD and Intel CPU's?
I run both Win 2K and Xp, and occasially Suse linux...

Whats the OS support on say a socket 939mobo and a Athlon 64 3200+.
Will the same Windows OS CD's that I install on Athlon Xp boxes install on an Athlon 64 box ( Both Win2k Sp4 and Xp sp2).
Is there anything special that ya have to do? ( other than put on the Mobo driver)

Would i have to run Sql Server 2005, 64bit version?
Or can i run either the 32 or 64 bit version?

Oh Boy, Sounds good...
Actually its my personal favorite development box thats startin to get quirky. Its given great sevice (athlon Xp2500+/A7n8x, 2/512DDR, 2/WD 80G, ++). It's a development/debug box runnin W2k/Sp4, Full office Xp, Sql Server and Visual studio6, VS .Net 2003, Vs 2005 and now Sql Sever 2005.

I realy want to keep a W2k dev/debug/test box and give it more juice too! Have old stuff i need to support on the box.

I don't know whether to buld a new box with a maxed out(proven) Athlon Xp hardware - or go for it on A64 hardware

I'd just love to hear from someone runnin W2k with A64/S939 hardware - and say Yea! - its all gonna run fine, just faster, better, Zippier (and even make better coffee in morn too!)

I gotta study 63 bit support!
