I dgot a copy of paragon hard disk manager of a cover cd (full version) but everytime I use the merge partition function on my c: 160 gig drive, all of them ntfs partitions, it will not allow me too it says 'the drive is in use'.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this problem (with this software or otherwise)

Thanks in advance

I'm guessing you cannot merge the partitions on a drive that is currently in use by the OS.

I'm waiting for you to recommend QTParted. I always use it.

:-D

I was going to say, don't mess with your partitions without a good backup ;-)

QTParted / GParted / fdisk always come in handy :-D

yup

i dont trust any software that says you can mess with your partitions using them.
in my conception, everytime i have to change a partition scheme is: backup, re-partition, install everything again

I always Ghost, re-partition, try to restore Ghost image then re-install :) Glad I bought it!

Never had any problems with Partition Magic resizing or moving, seems unchanged from PowerQuest days (now sold by Symantec/Norton). Glad I bought it (no sarcasm this time).

I use True Image 9, then Partition Magic, then delete the backup because PM has yet to fail me. (not that is 100% safe, it just hasn't failed so far)

If you are temped to skip the backup, think about what would happen in the event of a power outage.

Its also good to run a full file system scan on all affected partition and correct all errors before booting to PM or your favorite utility.

You don't want it half merged then have it choke on a file system error it cannot handle.
