I have a Dell 8300, 2.6Ghz w/1.5Gb RAM and a Geforce 5200FX ... not great (I know). Am getting around 8-9FPS in second life and looking for a good upgrade (must be AGP plus DVI+VGA).

Any suggestions ... don't want to overcook it with too fast a card for my CPU. Budget £120UKP or $180.

Thanks in advance

I have the same Dell 8300 and put this in it a year ago and have had no problems plus it is backed by a lifetime warranty ...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143027 .

The GTO with clobber that GT, and that GT is ridiculously priced, you can buy an X1600Pro for almost half that amout.

GTO's the best deal for AGP right now. The GF6800GS is close, but more expensive.

The GF6600GT should no longer be considered and option, only the GF680GS is worth considering.

Once the GF7600GT makes it to market that will be another card to consider.

For now that GTO seems like the best power/price option.

so the gto is an ATI x800 or x1600. I am confused about the difference and what performance increase in Second life I could get.

The GTO is the X800 that Raven linked to.

Pretty much whatever the APP the X800GTO or GF6800GS would be better than both the X1600Pro and GF6600GT.

Second life does not have benchmarks posted that I could find but looks very vertex heavy so you'd want those other cards for their heavy vertex/geometry engine power. However depending on the engine it may be more CPU bound, since the developers don't seem to recommend classes of cards so much as memory levels.

Truely not enough info for that title alone.
