What PSU will I need for my new rig?

Your Antec should work, but I'd go with the Thermaltake just to be safe. I have somewhat similar specs (check my sig; add to that 2 DVD drives), and I'm using that PSU. I leave my PC running all the time, and I've never had any problems with it shutting down or not getting enough juice.

i have a similar question. Im running a BFG 7900gt (requires at least 350w) on a 375watt PSU (from dell) I was wondering if by having such a low Wattage, would it slow down my pc at all? and ive noticed that when i set my AA to over 8x on CS:S, i get massive artifacts. could that cause it also?

well I have the Antec Smart Blue. I don't think it's the same one as the one reviewed. All this PSU stuff confuses the crap out of me. Will the Smart Blue still cut it?

How about you just do the easiest thing and just try the damn thing. If you aren't getting enough power to your components you'll know in a hurry, then you can buy a new, better PSU.

Well I don't want to risk anything I guess. Which is a hard demand in building a custom rig, I know. Thanks for the help then i'll just try mine

Just so you know, you won't damage anything by trying it. If you don't have enough power it just won't boot up. If you are worried just install your OS with the minimum requirements, CPU, vid card, one stick of ram, 1 HDD, and 1 DVD. Then start adding the rest of your components until you encounter problems or you have them all installed.

And I was wondering if you have a hi-end card like a 7900, why do you cheap out on a psu? Go and get a good psu with at least 450-500Ws.

because if ur PC can run exactly th same on a 40 dollar PSU vs a 80 dollar PSU, whats the point. he has a good PSU, antec is a very trustable brand, its not gonna blow.

shoot if i could run a PC with 20w i would take all that mney i saved and upgrade some other part im buying. maybe use that 40 bucks for a CPU cooler.

oh to add, the 7900GT is a low power card.

I agree with you Pen but then Frank sounds like a guy that would buy the SRT4 so go figure. If he doesn't need a better PSU now then why get one? Just for the sake of saying "hey guys, I spent over $100 on a 500W PSU even though I didn't need it" Bah, go put some more racing stickers on your car...

IF your current PSU doesn't work then I would suggest getting something beefy like a 500W or 600W just so that you are future proof but that's your choice.

yah, only reason u would need to get a better PSU would be if u got a better gfx card, (IE X1900XT)

even the 7900GT would run on that.

and if u do get a new PSU (which u absolutely should not) get something beefy like waylander said.

get an Antec TruePower 550w. or a NeoHE 500w.

but ur current PSU should run ur system.
