Curious where the firewire on the front of the case plugs into the P5WD2 motherboard. The cable running from the front of the case says 1394 which as far as I know is firewire not USB? The P5WD2 motherboard has two connectors on the board to connect 2 USB devices. Problem is the front of my case has 2 USB ports and 1 1394 port. The P5WD2 motherboard has 2 connectors for USB and from what I can tell both USB ports on the front of my case use 1 connector, looks like they share one connector. So I can plug that into one of the USB connectors on the motherboard which leaves one USB connector free on the motherboard.
Now the 1394 cable from the front of the case has an identical plug as the USB and can plug into the second USB connector on the motherboard. Is it safe to plug the 1394 into one of the USB connectors on the motherboard? If so then that solves the problem. If not then where on the motherboard does the 1394 plug in or do I have to leave the 1394 on the front of the case disconnected? I don't want to fry the board.
Second question is there is a black wire coming from the front of the case which looks like it is connected to the temperature guage on the front of the case. The case is an Aspire X-Discovery. The end of the wire looks like a metal strip encased in a gold colored plastic coating which I am guessing is for monitoring the temperature in the case? Nothing in the manual for the motherboard where such a wire would hook up. Does it just sit lose in the case? The wire has the letters TTF IO3 or TIF IO3 or possibly IQ3. Letters are very small and hard to read. So if someone could help us with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.
DO NOT Plug the 1394 into the usb connector or the other way around.
the 1394 plug should have a red header (at least on the e-prem) if you dont want to use it you dont have to plug it in.
That temp probe wire you can stick it anywhere you'd like , just dont short out electrical connections. You can can use tape to stick it on whatever you want. since pretty much everything on the board is already monitored i have my probe on my ddr2 ram heat sink.
