Hi guys, this may have been asked 10000 times well here is 10001 :)

I am looking to get a second game computer. The thing is I have never used AMD but I like the price since I have limited budget.

Is the AMD 3000 the same as a P4 3.0? I don't know what all the numbers mean and have not been able to keep up with it.

What I was going to build was:

Pentium 4 630, 3.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, Socket LGA775

Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G ATX Socket 775 Motherboard

I have a BFG 6600GT Vid card I am going to use had good luck with it AGP.

What would be the same in AMD line? Sorry if this is confusing when you don't know what the hell you are talking about it is hard to ask the right question. :)

I play games about it. Al kinds of games shooters, MMORPG etc.

I would like to run FRAPS and do a little video editing but not like I am a professional or anything so if it take 3 more mins I will not be sad about it.

Thanks a bunch

Scott

Definitely go with AMD if you are going to be gaming, they are superior to the Intels in that arena. The 3000+ is good choice if you are looking for power at low price. It performs great on pretty much anything you throw at it, and will run alot cooler than an Intel CPU also. It won't be quite as good on the video editing, but if your main focus is gaming that is no big deal. If you are going to be using an AGP video card you will probably want to go with this motherboard. It has AGP and PCI express so you can go either way on your video card

I would stick with the 3000+ its not really worth the extra for the 3200+. You can always overclock the 3000+ if you want more power out of it. Don't know if you into that or not.

I have a 3000+, that motherboard you mentioned and a 6800GT video card. It works great. OP you will like that system very much!

I have played with OC'ing nothing serious but it does not look too difficult if I want to squeeze out some more performance.

I think I will try out the AMD thanks for your help. The price is just hard to beat.

Thanks again,

Scott

Yeah my son is old enough to play games now and drives me crazy to play with him. So I figured spend a few hundred bucks be worth the fun.
