It's still way too overpriced like all of Apple's stuff.

LoL. What world does this guy live on? You have a more inferior product and price it $130 more?

Now if this thing had the same specs (or even similar) as the iPad 3 (not the one they just announced), I would say sure. But fairly underpowered CPU and Screen that is way lacking? Come on...

Depends, if that product does what you need it to do and if it brings a little happiness to your short time on this planet. Who are we to judge people by how they spend their own hard earned money. Unless someone on welfare is buying this stuff....

Sounds like a repugnant politically correct defense for a high price; Apple has to maintain its image as a status-symbol product.

Too bad the crazy profit margin is unusable since Apple files their profits away overseas.

I was excited over the iPad mini but at 329 I don't think so. For a measly 70 I can get the full iPad. So it looks like Nexus 7 and full size iPad. I may not get the nexus and wait to see what microsoft offers. I have two android devices that are just Meh.

It doesn't have a GPS, it has a lower resolution screen than the nexus 7, and it costs more. (Not to mention it's bigger, which may be an up for some people; but not me.)

With the price of memory now days I would think they would start out with a minimum of 32 Gb of storage. These companies should advertise their free storage, not what it has then they use up half of it. I'm am Apple fan but this is too pricy for 16Gb. I will stick with my 13" Macbook Pro.

Interesting, I have a ASUS Transformer Prime and my wife has an iPad 2, I have had the same content experience on both devices but I got my Transformer Prime for $100 less. Odd. That can't possibly be true because from what he is saying price defines experience.

Sounds to me that they are going to make a bigger margin per ipad mini sold than they do on the larger ipad's.

It's actually really good that their symbol is an Apple, goes hand in hand with original sin and the rise of greed.

*Android and PC fanboys. Most people here have never taken a course in business, and no one here can take a joke about themselves. Ex. Apple Macbook Pro = $1500, gaming laptop = $5000. Or, complains how iSheeps buy everything Apple regardless, yet they upgraded phone from Galaxy S II to S III and purchase Google and MS phones because they aren't Apple.

iPad Mini and Kindle Fire HD shouldn't even be compared, let alone be in the same sentence. Not only is the Kindle Fire HD much cheaper but it's packed with content that you would otherwise have to pay hundreds for with Apple. Get Amazon Prime which gives you tons of free content like books and movies on top of 2 day shipping guaranteed and it blows iPad mini away. Can Apple give you that for that ridiculous low price? No. Unlike Apple, Amazon doesn't rape your wallet

So to put it short, "We put an apple on it and charge you more money than the competition" that is basically it. They didn't seem to actually justify the price difference when compared to the competition, in fact the lack of GPS greatly crippples it compared to the competition in my opinion. The only real advantage I see is the slightly larger screen. Almost everything else are the typical trading blows comparisons you get from android and Ipad products.

Honestly I think this is more of a $250 product if they threw in a GPS, $320 is way out of line. I feel it would be competitive at 250, but when they got greedy for another 70 it pushes it past competitive into pricey. Though there will be a lot of people who only know of apple products and that their suppose to be good so their guaranteed sales.

What's so surprising about statements made from a marketing department chief? It is his job, throwing out lots of words that dazzles some people while having no real content (or fact) in its meaning. Anything come from marketing department should be read like a good joke, not to be taken seriously. Someone should compile a list of all statement made by marketing department before the product turns out to be turkeys, that will be fun to read.

failed miserably huh? then why is apple entering this market? because amazon and google made a market with these 7 inchers, and now apple wants a slice of the pie.

Actually, I was surprised that an Apple executive was so forthright about his opinion of the competition.

I suppose things like this really herald the death of Apple. It's greatest strength was its ironclad, nigh-invincible control on press briefings and marketing. To see it slip this much well that just doesn't bode well for the company.

Unless I'm missing something here and Apple execs have often been quoted as saying other products fail miserably to compete with Apple.

TomsApple strikes again, this silly article is biased towards Apple. "The iPad Mini least-expensive variant is $329 for the 16GB W-Fi version. Rival 7-inch tablets such as Google's Nexus 7, Amazon's Kindle Fire HD and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0 sell for $199. That said, these all come with a storage capacity of 8GB. Still, does an extra 8GB of storage space warrant an extra $129?" They become all anal about 8gb in storage space(which isn't a big deal[why the **** would you need an extra 8gb?]), but fails to mention the fact that the nexus 7 has a better screen resolution, a quad core processor as opposed to the mini's dual core 2 gen old tech.

Which you would still have to buy from Apple anyway. Amazon has more sales on mp3 albums and books and overall you get more bang from your buck if you get an amazon prime membership if you shop there often. $199 + $79 prime and you get all this ton of content (including free paid apps). Even when you take the tablet and the membership it still ends up being over $50 cheaper than an iPad mini. You're still going to have to buy content on the iPad mini so Amazon isn't the only one that will try to "rape" you

I have sold out of all but 1 nexus 7 as of tuesday. still have a case full of ipads. I really think the apple world is become saturated. I think that you are right, and so do Apple when it believes that. Apple wants to be "upper class" product, so that they can maintain high profit margin. It is actually guite clever in economicall perspect.
Normal user will think what he gets for his money, Apple user gains "luxury" item and have to pay for it. Is it sensible, maybe not but neither are expensive sport cars. Still many people want to have them...
