More Information

I just purchased some new OCZ Ram (OCZ26672048ELDCGE) which is the Gold Series, DDR2 667mhz (2 * 1GB). I am having trouble picking out a motherboard that will suit my needs. I haven't yet picked out a new process either, but my main concern is picking out a motherboard that supports my RAM.

My other components worth noting are a 74gb Raptor, Zalman 9500 LED Cooler, Large SATA storage drive, etc. etc.
Please advise..

(I wasn't sure if this belonged on the Mobo or RAM section, so I put it here.)

Well you should have spent a couple extra bucks and got the DDR2-800. The new chips will utilize 800.
You can go either AMD or Intel. AMD's new socket AM2 uses DDR2-667 with the Sempron 64s or DDR2-800 with the Athlons and X2's.
All the new Intel chips use at least DDR2-667 (I think)
I just purchased a MSI AM2 board ($80) on the Nforce550 platform. I also picked up a Sempron 64 3600+ ($120). I also eyed the A64 3200+. I plan to buy a new 65nm X2 AM2 when the prices come down. I cant afford to buy everything so I bought these knowing the price isnt going down any time soon. I also know the video card prices are dropping like rocks as well as DDR2 is dropping slowly. I should be able to afford them in a week or two.
So there you have it any AM2 board or Intel 775 board will take your ram.

You've heard the term "putting the cart before the horse"? Well, you just did that pretty well. You might try exchanging the ram for DDR2-800, something like what MrsD suggested. The MSI board is good, and there are a few others. If you have decided on whether you want ATI or Nvidia graphics, buy the motherboard to match your card. Again, as Mrs D said, if you just want a chip to get by with for now and then upgrade later, buy a minimal AM2 chip and then buy a good one in a few months when the prices drop. If you don't want to go through the upgrade hastle, then a 3800 class chip would be better, or even higher if you can afford it.

I have already since then issued an RMA with newegg and I'm replacing my ram with PC6400 (800mhz DDR2) for only like $10 more after rebates. I think I have decided to go with the Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard which has the AM2 chipset that my ram is yearning for. The only problem with that is I now have to return the Zalman 9500LED that I ordered with my ram also because that motherboard isn't compatible with it. I'd have to get the Zalman 9500 AM2 which is $70, and probably unecessary after seeing all the built-in cooling options on the M2N32-SLI Board.

The video card is the last thing I plan to upgrade. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb that is running fine. It just needs a better processor/HD to speed up my games....(I currently have an Athlon XP 3000+ and only an ATA133 HD).

Thankfully when I get my new motherboard and ram, I'll have this shiny new Raptor to run games from. :)

Reading your last post I dont think you understand that you cant use your Radeon 9800 pro with that motherboard. You will need a Pci-E video card for the new mobo's. Secondly AM2 is not a chipset, its a 940pin cpu socket.

Yeah, I guess I didn't even think about the fact that there aren't any AGP slots on the new motherboard. Oh well, I didn't plan on using the new parts until they were all here anyways. And as far as the "AM2 Chipset" :) I meant AM2 socket. typo.

Yeah all that stuff gets confusing if you dont keep up on it. I used to do purchasing for a large computer hardware company in San Jose, CA. I used to have to know all the specifics and compatability so It comes naturally that I have an interest in keeping up with it still.
Just so you know, you can get a EVGA 7600GT 256 from newegg this weekend for $169. It also has a $20 rebate so its only $149. I've always gotten my rebates from evga too, so dont worry about that.
Good luck.
