epson c84

My Epson c84 blue ink seems to be stopped up and so far I haven't been able
to unstop it. However, the graph showing ink level continues to show the ink
level dropping. I suppose when it calculates x pages printed, it will
require a new cartridge. Is there any way to continue printing with the
black cartridge only when one of the 3 color carts is empty? I have it set
to print black only and that cart nearly empty. Any help or advice
appreciated.

The "blue" cartridge (actually cyan) will indicate it has run low on ink
in spite of that not being the case, because the head is clogged,
because the printer calculates the expected ink use, not actually ink
use. So now even ink you don't waste with a full clog will be "lost"
unless you reset the cartridge chip. Quite a system, eh?

To my knowledge, the Epson printer you spoke of will not allow the
printer to print once any cartridge reads "empty".

Well, I guess what I need to do is go back to dot matrix printing. I use the
printer mostly for printing e-mails or text so that would work. I suppose I
would need the proper printer driver for XP home?

(I couldn't remember cyan at the time I wrote the original post).

There is another answer, but its complex, involving tricking the printer
into thinking it has full cartridges when it does not using a chip
resetter. To do this so that the color heads don't clog by drying out,
you need to first purge them with cleaning fluid.

Some "in box" drivers are offered for basic dot matrix printing with XP.
However, monochrome laser printers have become quite inexpensive,
although they can get you on the toner refills.
