i need a PSU atleast 550 watts and SLI certified.
i will be running 2 GB of ram pc2700(left over from last comp 4/512mb), AMD x2 4400+, dual VID cards in SLI BFG 7600 GT OC or the XFX 7600 gt XXX, ASUS A8N 32 SLI DELUXE MOBO.
please help me out on a good PSU with atleast a 3yr warranty. i doubt ill be doing overclocking.
i was wondering about the new cooler master Igreen PSU 600 watt.
or if you guys have opinions on this PSU or other PSU's. i need something good and reliable. i will have an ANTEC P180 case. i was going to go with the Anect ture control II 550 watt, but ive heard that the cables are too short for the case i am wanting. Thanks

please give me your input.

You do not need a 550w PSU.

Consider the power requirements for the following hypethetical build:

Athlon 64 X2 4800+........................96w (Actual Measurement)
Motherboard...................................20w
2 sticks if 1GB RAM.........................10w
2 BFG Geforce 7900gt for SLI.........114w (Actual Measurement)
2 250GB Hard Drive.......................36w
1 sound card..................................10w
2 120mm Case Fans.......................12w
1 DVD Drive...................................15w

Total Est. Power Consumption........313w (At Full Load)

The 313w assumes every single component will be maxed out. That usually doesn't happen, the max load during game play will most likely be around 288w. You need a PSU that can deliver at least 25 amps on the 12v rails.

Good PSUs under 600w that will power up this rig:

Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-480 480W Power Supply - $83 shipped - Provides a max of 33 amps on the 12v rails or 396w (33 amps X 12 volts).

ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT 400W Power Supply - $89 - Provides up to 360w on the 12v rails, 30amps.

SILVERSTONE SST-ST50EF 500W Power Supply - $107 Shipped - Provides 420w on the 12v rails, 35 amps.

ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W Power Supply - $110 shipped & after rebate. - 384w on the 12v rails, 32 amps.

SeaSonic S12-500 500W Power Supply - $142 Shipped - 320w watts on the 12v rail, 27 amps. This is my own personal favorite, I bought this puppy on sale last year for just over $100 when I though I would have an SLI rig. The more I thought about it the less sense SLI made to me.

If the 400w ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT PSU has enough power for this SLI rig, then it will certainly have enough for yours.

Why are you bothering with SLi on a system with 7600s??? You can get BETTER frames with a SINGLE, CHEAPER card.

yah for about 170 dollars a peice. totalling $340 get an X1800XT or an 7900GT.

also 7600GT;s dont even need extra power so any moderate 400w-500w PSU will be fine.

I'm willing to make the assumption that this is a gaming system, though.

It seems 480w will be fine, and (unless you're 3D modelling, apparently) a single card will serve you better. And get some faster RAM.

Of course you're right that he's probably doing a "game only" 3D upgrade. I just pointed that out because I've seen cases where people would still insist on the single bigger card even when certain people have mentioned they were interested in such applications as 3D modeling.

I've tested a lot of cards of course. The higher-clockspeed 6600GT often beat the wider-pipeline 6800GT in 3D Modeling, and two of them in SLI were simply slaughtering everything above them right into the 7800GT erra.

I only have one 7600GT of course, so I can't give exact performance numbers for SLI mode, I can only make comparisons to what SLI did for the 6600GT.

For gaming, a nice 7900GTX would fit the bill :)
