I changed the settings to Manual from Auto, set the intensity to-4,
removed Vivid, Image Optimizer, and Noise Reduction (this was a scanned
in negative) and got better results on skin tones. The black hair was
not quite as rich but the entire image was better overall.

This was only with one print so I may have to vary the intensity and
also may have to change some of my Photoshop adjustments like
saturation. The question I have is when you change from Auto to Manual
does this disable the settings on the Effects menu or do you have to go
there and change the settings independently?

Also, should you use manual with out vivid or image optimizer on scenics
as well or just for people?

I use manual with no other effects active. I want to control the outcome
myself. That way, If it isn't quite right I know where to make adjustments.

But does the Manual setting automatically disable the choices on the
Effects menu or do those choices add to the selections chosen via the
Manual setting?

wait...neither of effects are enabled by default. SO, if they ARE enabled,
then you enabled it somehow.
BTW... if you use canon photo paper, then if you use canon easy photo print
program, it sets all necesarry settings automatically for each type of
paper. SO, you edit your photo in photoshop, save, close it. Open Canon
photo print, print photo. Voila!!!

Do not want Canon Photo Print program. I know that I set effects
intentionally. The question is do these setting do anything if the
Manual Setting are chosen. In other word if I choose Manual, make
Manual adjustments, and THEN check things on the effects menu do they
add to the Manual settings or does Manual cause them to be ignored?

i think that manual settings apply only for colors, while effects are
different thing and they are applied anyway. It's similar like if you open
photo in, say photoshop, apply filter, save and then print withyour manual
set settings.
