Yep needs to be 100% identical... even if you get 2 x 7900GTs (both from gigabyte). If gigabyte decide to change the memory of their second batch of 7900GTs then NO SLI for you little boy!

MUST be 100% IDENTICAL in every way!

Or better still ..... XFX has made a wide range of 7900GTs about 6 or so differnt cards based on the 7900GT....... They all come with different OCs differnt ram different revisions etc etc.... If you buy slightly differnt 7900GT with slighly differnt spcs..... NO SLI for you little boy!

woah chill out, and no your wrong, nvidia updated the drivers so now you can SLI 7900GT only with another 7900GT like DaBigHurt and prozac26 said

With the new "Release 80" driver, NVIDIA takes SLI to an entirely new level. First of all, gamers can use graphics cards in SLI mode with different clock speeds, different BIOS settings, different input/output configurations, different memory sizes and from different manufacturers. That means that our friends Nick and Jeff can buy any graphics card they want, as long as it's the same model as their current graphics card (GeForce 7800 GTX for Nick, and GeForce 6800 GT for Jeff). How's THAT for flexibility?

Thanks god that they have made SLI a little more felxable!

I had (still have) a bad experience with SLI and the gigabyte 7900GTs.....

Gigabyte made 7900GTs with a new kind of RAM and this does not SLI with the older Gigabyte 7900GTs with the older memory chips.!!!

I hope this new driver fixes it... I will keep you posted

clock speeds can differ also

my evga and BFG have diffrent speeds but runs at the speed of what ever card is the master, on ABIT top slot is the master or the single card slot
