My PC :

X2 4800+ on MSI k8 Diamond Plus
80 gig Seagate sata150 7200 rpm
asus eax 1900xtx
2 x 512 pc-3200 memory

I want 2 know: is it worth it if i upgrade my memory to 1024 x 2?

THX guys

What do you use the computer for?
Games? Video/Music editing.
Do you run multiple apps at one time?
It wont hurt you to upgrade to 2 gig. But your best route would be to replace the memory you have now with 2 1 gig sticks. Which looks like you are going to do that.

i'm using my pc mostly for games, but sometimes i do some video editing too, just basic editing.

is there eny disadvantages if i'm using 4x512 instead of 2x1gig?
is it better 2 upgrade to 2 gig of ram, or still 1 gig of ram, but with low latency ram like corsair or somthing like that?

Many amd boards will lower the memory clock to 333mhz when using 4 sticks of ram. Check the manual and it will tell you under what memory configs it will do this. You could bump the speed back up manually if you want.
You will see a better benefit from 2 gig of ram instead of low latency. tighter timings will only give you a noticable improvement on benchmarks. You wont see any real benefit in the realworld. 2 gig is much better.

I agree completely with sturm, I have wittnessed it first hand on many mobo's. 2 x 512MB DDR400 DIMMS run perfectly well in dual channel mode, then another identical 2 x 512MB DDR400 DIMMS are added and the system drops the memory speed to 333MHz and I have also been told by a mobo maker, no names (a bit of time ago) that putting 4 unmatched DIMMS on a board could cause system instability...Not good.

Also I would not advise mixing sizes, i.e. 2 x 512MB with 2 x 1024MB, this is not recommended by any mobo maker I've had dealings with, they all advise matched DIMMS all the way.

2GB will be more than enough for any task you can throw at your machine until VISTA arrives, and then you may think about adding another 2 x 1024MB DIMMS (Matched to the first set if poss)

I hope this helps
