I am overclocking right now. It would greatly help me out if you guys could guide me along the way.

I am using the following
CPU- Intel 630 3ghz cooling via Thermaltake Blue Orb II
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116198
Ram - OCZ 26672048ELDCGE-K 2GB Kit DDR2-667 PC2-5400 Gold Edition 4-4-4-8
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85206
Motherboard - ASUS P5WD2 Premium
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131534

After many hour of installing stuff and a little burn in I ran my first test.

3.53Ghz was not stable

3.6

Im running mine at 3.6ghz 250x15 1.435V in bios but I get 1.51V Idle in Windows.
I can't seem to move up any at all. Any Ideas?

ive got the same processor running @ 3.6ghz on the stock voltage and water cooled.

it runs perfectly but i found that about 3.7ghz was the wall for the stock voltage, so if your gonna go beyound that your gonna have to crank up the power. and its going to get very hot! im not sure if youll be able to reach 4ghz with a blue orb but ill be very interested to see your results.

ive been giong back and fourth about trying to hit 4ghz with mine so i guess ill base my opinion off of your results.

oh and i looked at your spread sheet, it looks great but you might want to make your increments a lil smaller than jumping by 200mhz each time. just a suggestion. 8) good luck

Tonight I am planning my overclocking for this weekend. It would greatly help me out if you guys could help me along the way. Right now I am planning out what settings I will need to change and what I need to keep a close eye on. I have overclocked before but I am doing it this way to make sure I "go by the book" to say.

I will be using the following
CPU- Intel 630 3ghz cooling via Thermaltake Blue Orb II
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116198
Ram - OCZ 26672048ELDCGE-K 2GB Kit DDR2-667 PC2-5400 Gold Edition 4-4-4-8

Motherboard - ASUS P5WD2 Premium

Here is a simple spreadsheet of what I intend to do starting Sunday.
If I am leaving anything out, please correct me.

Stock run

What ya think?
20 Minutes of Prime doesn't mean it's stable.Try

for at least 12 hours.

nevermind, the higest I can get it is still 242fsb 3.6ghz with standard ram timings. I ran memtest86 last night and got an error on one of my sticks so i think im going to send it back for some diffrent ram. Does anyone know if having a bad stick of ram can limit the overclock even if you are running the ram at rated speed?

I hope this is the case because no matter what I do I can not get past 242 fsb.

umm
having a bad memory stick = your entire computer will have errors, even at stock speeds. trying to overclock with memory you know is bad is a complete waste of time.

get your new ram, then try to overclock. ram with errors = asking for problems.

what ratio do you have your ram at?

you should prob set it to a 5:4 that would lower your fsb and allow you to go a lil higher on your OC.

that looks good, and yes your ram ratio is 3:4.

if its not stable or you want to go higher, like try to reach 4ghz, lower it to 5:4 and raise the fsb slowly. 8)

Not much sense, if you have to

run @ 5:4. Running 4GHz...266 FSB with mem @ 213 is senseless. P4's

NEED the higher bandwidth, You'd be better off running 1:1 or 3:4 with

slower timings. GL :)

k i dont get why we are still trying to overclock

or even run the system

when WE KNOW bcs of memtest that one of the memory sticks is bad@!!!@*!(@*@!!*&#)(*&!)@(*$!@#()$&@#!$)(*&@$#!$@#(*&$

just fix the memory first, then come back here. there is no point trying to find a max overclock because with bad memory, your computer will give random errors that cannot be fixed.

Try running Memtest, with one stick, then switch it with the other.
That should tell you which DIMM is bad(especially test #5). Then you'll
probably want to order some new RAM. Meanwhile, try your overclocking
with the one good stick...should still give you some idea what kind of clocks you'll be looking at. GL :)

hey 1Tanker,

ive got a 6800GS at (16pp5v) @ 380/780

and i cant get it any higher, now im not new to OC'ing i was jsut wondering what you stock speeds were for core/ram and if you had the 256mb version.

by the way you should Hook up that TT water system, ive got one and theyre pretty kickin bro. 8)

Mine is the eVGA6800GS. Factory overclocked to 400/1100, so i haven't

clocked it up much, yet. I haven't even taken off the stock HS/F to apply

some AS5, and a lap job if necessary. Here's the model:

http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=256-A8-N397-TX&family=17

I've got mine fully unlocked 16/6 and a slight overclock(although the

reference clocks are 350/1000,so it's a fair O/C). Yes mine is the 256MB

model. I didn't want to lap the HS/F, or apply AS5 until 90 days are up,as

i wasn't sure if i wanted to "step-up" to the 7800GS, but i don't think i will,

i'll just save my money for a whole system upgrade. We had a small

flood in our basement in March, so my "work" area and benches were

taken out for now. thus i haven't had the space to rip my machine apart.

I don't expect to gain much with the Bigwater SE, as my XP-120 works

pretty good. My 120mm fan pumps 108CFM. :D

thanks that gave me alot better idea of what im working with here, my stock speed is 325/725 i think. but i jsut bought this one off ebay used, for really cheap. my extra vertex shader doesnt work but the other 4 pipes do so im happy.

i know mine isnt an OC version but i wonder y its clocked so low.

back on topic,

Here is a current screen of my overclock. I am at 4ghz now :D wOOT! I'm just trying to get prime to be stable.

I went from 6mins, to 10mins, to 20mins to 1 hour 40 mins of being stable, each time upping the cpu voltage by 1 notch.

Now I am at 1.475V and have not ran prime yet. I hope it will stay stable at this voltage.

I get 41C idle and 61-63C Load it has gone up to 65C but it goes back down.

Im just wondering, what mobo you using to be able to get a 1060mhz FSB? And one other quick question, why buy a 630 instead of a 631? You would have been able to clock the 631 much higher and keep it much cooler. (It's 65nm).

I'm using the Asus P5WD2-Premium.

I got that cpu used for 160 about 5 months ago and it has been sitting in the corner of my room all that time until last week.

your still running dual channel? i thought you were returning/removing the bad stick of ram. if its not stable its because of that stick of ram.

take out the bad stick, lower your ram timings if possible.

your voltage isnt 1.47 its 1.536 which is fine, and so are your temps.

Sorry I meant to tell you guys, I switched both sticks of ram with each other and ran memtest86 for 9 hours at stock settings with no errors. I have not ran it at the overclocked speed yet.

The voltage is at 1.4750V in the bios but it gets around 1.5 when idle and drops to 1.45 when under full load.

GJ. Just wait till you, either get
that RAM, or some new RAM overclocked. It should perform pretty well. You
should post a bench or 2 once you get her tweaked. GL
