I was browsing through my DVD recording manual and came upon the following listing in a table called

Format modes that can be used with each disc
The usable format depends on the media type as shown
in the below table.

This list is as follows:

DVD-RW(Ver.1.0),
DVD-RW (Ver.1.1 and 1.2),
DVD-R (Ver.2.0/4x/8x)

I understand 4X/8x but don't get the Ver. 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0?

Just a guess,

Most likely the firmware of the burner itself, what types of writable media it can use and the burn speeds of the burner.

Basic format specifications version 1.2? because Most new DVD-RW suppoer 16X and 18X on those versions the version 1.0 and 1.1 are only for 8X and 12X support. I've been having problems with those i think can't get my 8X drives to run them because i think my DVD-rw only supports up to version 1 or a newrevision of Version one but ont 1.1 or 1.2
