I'm trying to install a second sata hard drive. It's a Western Digital WD400KD.

I have an Athlon xp 3200+ with win xp pro sp2.

Everything goes fine until I try to format the new hard drive in disk management under admin tools. The format goes all the way to the end, then comes up with an error message:

The format did not complete successfully

If I use the Western Digitals Data Lifeguard Tools software, it says the format completed, but when I try to use the drive, I get an error message saying the drive needs to be formated.

This is the second drive I've had the same exact problem with. The first, I sent to Western Digital thinking something was wrong with it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Are you using the blue cable that came with the hard drive? Try switching the cables. Try runing the new drive alone and see if you have any luck. I had a problem with the secure cable and when i switched it i was able to use both drives.

Is the disk basic or dynamic?
