I don't do full backup all the time. I do incremental backup.

So if I were to delete files, do incremental backup, delete files, do
incremental backup..... when I do a restore, will the old old files
which I've deleted be restored ?

I'm using:

- Active Sync 3.7.1 backup
- PPC V 3.0.11171

Thanks.

The incremental backup is supposed to mark those files as deleted and not
restore them. For my own experience, it does not restore these files.

Is an "Incremental Backup" really a Differential?

By definition, restoring Incremental backups requires
restoring the last Full backup, then each and every
incremental until the latest.

Restoring a Differential requires restoring the last Full
backup, then a single Differential (which is the changes
since the last full backup).

In any case, for as small a device as a PDA it probably
makes little sense to do anything but full backups. You
should purchase large enough media to do full backups (my
recommendation) or make full backups to your desktop when
you ActiveSync.

The incremental backup option is meant to speed up the backup
process if you're not keen on waiting for your device to
finish it's backup each time you cradle it, if you have set it
to backup each time you sync it. The first time the entire
device is mirrored, then after that only the changes are mirrored.
That way only new stuff is added/changed in the backup when
you do a scheduled backup or a sync-and-backup.
I think it's a handy feature, I used to use it on my Psion a lot
before XP broke the compatibility with PsiWin.
