Worth spending even more money?

So I just finished building a new system about a month ago. Here are the specs:

AMD Athalon 64 3200+
1 GB OCZ DDR400
eVGA Geforce 6500 PCIe x16 256 mb RAM

Now, the performance of this new system and video card over my old setup is considerably better of course, but to be honest, it's not as good as I expected.

My primary use of the vid card is for MS Flight Sim 2004 and while it looks better with this card, I still have low frame rates, stuttering, and my image quality doesn't hold a candle to other FS users who have other video cards.

Now, I've found an XFX Geforce 7600GT PCIe X16 GDDR3 256 MB card for about $170, but I'm concerned....

Would this more expensive card give me the performance and video quality I'm looking for, or am I just throwing money away?

If this isn't the right card to get, but there is one out there for under ~$250-300 (preferably under 250 or even 200, but I'd save up for a card that's worth it), can someone recommend it?

The video card market is so confusing these days.

Thanks in advance.

7600GT is a good card for the money. You can get a 7900GT for about $260US. 7900GT is better, and worth getting. If you get a 7900GT, I would also recommend getting 2gb of RAM to avoid possible bottlenecking.

if all your going to do is play the flight sim and you don't really plan on playing brand new titles then a 7600GT should do you good along with another stick of 1GB of ram, although the 7900GT would last you much longer, i don't know if you really would need the extra power

Well, with Flight Ssim X and WinVista coming out, I'm sure the extra power would be good to have.

Really it's just a budget question for me at this point.

Thanks for the answers guys.
