WinXPSp1 cant detect old Mouse (Com port) on old PC

My old PC use Mouse Com port (dont have PS/2 port),Win 98Se .But when i reinstall Win XPSp1 ,that PC cant detect this Mouse but on desktop show the pointer of Mouse and when it working or busy but cant move .What happened ?

I would do into device manager and under the ports section see if COM1 and so on exist or not. If the COM ports are there you can try to manually install the mouse with 'Add or Reomve Hardware' as a generic COM port mouse. I don't have legacy ports on my motherboard so I can't verify that the section in device manager I'm thinking of exists, but as far as I remember there should be one called Ports. I think maybe it might be time for a computer upgrade...
