I'm building an AMD AM2 based system within the next month or so and can't find places stocking DDR2-800 memory anywhere. (based in the UK)

Has it even been released over here yet as the sites (overclockers and microdirect) that I usually get my hardware from haven't got any mention of it.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers. I don'tmake myself clear with what I meant by DDR2-800. It runs at 800MHz and is designated PC6400. the PC8000 RAM you've mainly linked to runs at 1GHz which I don't think AMD AM2 motherboards support yet.

I think on one or two of those pages there was 800MHz DDR2 ram on there anyway so thanks for the links. Much appreciated.

OMG you are noobish! PC2-8000 defaults to PC2-6400 speed. The motherboard only sees SPD values, and the SPD values for PC2-8000 tell the motherboard its PC2-6400.

The reason for that is that PC2-8000 is overclocked from PC2-6400. The reason it cost more is that the company took the extra time and effort to make sure you could push it that far.

And the reason SPD values are set to PC2-6400 is that going faster requires you to use non-standard DIMM voltage.

Basically, any system that supports DDR2-800 also supports DDR2-1000.
