That is true but the performance of two cards on one pci x16 lane just isnt worth the cost. Sure there are benchmarks that show the higher end resolution benefitting but still they seem to be having driver issues.
Yeah... whatever issues there are now, I'm sure they'll be worked out within a couple weeks. Online retailers are going to start selling these any day now (if they already haven't).
Also, the difference in performance between and SLI setup using 8x PCI-E slots and 16x PCI slots is negligble. Numerious benchmarks have proven this. Most cards still do not even come close to surpassing the theoretical bandwidth of PCI-E 8x. Even the 7900GTX.
That is true, and even AGP didnt go to its full theoretical advantage either. Well newegg is listing the GX2's but the pricing is off. Tigerdirect is selling them as of today, so if anyone has the money get one to test it and send it to me when you are done.
As with any new release of a card, driver issues will be worked out, and hopefully the 90 series driver will be ready soon, maybe thats what they are waiting so long for, the release of this card to fix the issues and release the new forceware driver for all.
LOL. Your ATI "colors" are showing off Prozac. :-)
There's one major difference between 2 7900GT's and the 7950GX2 though: memory. 7900GT's have 256MB a piece. 7950GX2 has 1GB total. While that might not be important now, it will be later.
Additionally, the cheapest 7900GT goes for $275. With an SLI setup, that's only $100 cheaper than a single 7950GX2.
