I recently purchased a fx-53. I was just wondering if this processor is really worth the money or is it a rip off for the money. I only paid like $300 for it, but it use to retail at one point $800 and its a rare one that you dont see very often; the 939 version. I mean is it worht having or should i turn around and sell it to make a profit and go with a x2 or a 4000 sandiego? Dont worry about my system, just for the price range of $300 what should i go with? Gamer, but not serious, just looking for something i can play games without problems and overclockable. THanks.

I agree, for a mere $300 you just became a member of the FX64 club, congrats!

I just bought in March, a 3700+ San Diego (2.2) for $212, and I am pretty satisfied with my gaming performance.

The Socket FX-53 Clawhammer is a 2.4GHz, 1MB L2 cache part. The 4000+ San Diego is basically the same as your FX-53 but 90nm and with a locked multiplier. Your FX-53 will run a tad hotter than the 4000+ San Diego, but its unlocked multiplier leads to better overclocking than the 4000+.

$300 is a VERY reasonable price for the FX-53 as the 4000+ is about $360 and the performance should be about identical between the two. I'll say you did well if the chip has not been burned up or otherwise damaged.

You won't get that much of an OC out of that FX53 compared to what the newer 90nm cores are capable of but you do get the unlocked multipliers for a fair price.

You won't be breaking any records with that CPU but 2.6GHz is just a matter of using an higher multiplier and some extra voltage. It's easier than having to work with an high HTT and ratios but I would'nt say that it will give you a better overclock.

Well seeing i cant even find a review of this cpu for the socket 939, i am pretty sure its a rare CPU and there are not many of these out there, most of them at 800mhz fsb and socket 940. WOOT WOOT WOOT WOOT. It also costed about $650 to $800 brand new.
