Really not very pleased with these companies and their marketing strategies, not pleased at all.

Many a time (like a special at Futureshop that's going on now), they come at that price only after a say, $40, mail in rebate (which will never come, of course). And the black cartridge is often never included.

That is exactly the case here $40 CAD rebate. The rebate strategy is something also. They most probably have calculated that enough people just forget to send it the rebate request or don`t do a folow up on it.
But after having bought for a good few thousand $ at futur shop I must say only one I got screwed on the rebate return. It was from US Roboyics and I did a strong follow up. But another 5 or 6 rebates did come back. WD especially came back fast.
The price of those inkjet cartridges is what`s bothers me to no end.

Well both actually.
I remember manufactures rebates on kids software and also a scanner and WD DD, their was others, but i forget.
Futur shop i remember for memmery sticks and the same WD DD. For the Futur Shop i did have to do a follow up and e-mail the customer relations but the rebate did come in.
They are a pain, and no dought many just don't bother, that's what the marketing strategy must be.

I've only had luck on a WD rebate a couple of years ago from Future Shop. That was it.
