scanneroption is connected to a lexmark optra t616n via SCSI to the
SCSI-port of a 2501e networkcard. powering on the scanner, scanner
display shows "v3.9V". powering on the printer, the scanner doesnt
initializes at all or it hangs showing 1.line of display Date and
time, 2.line "pleas wait...". initialization was sucessfull one time
in between. Any hints???

I have the identical problem (Optra T612, X443 MFP, n2501e card), which
was preceded by the fax function failing to answer incoming calls-the
scanner and copy functions worked fine until I reboooted and the
scanner interface stopped working. I have reinitialized the 2501
network card, the printer, uploaded new firmware, diddled with the SCSI
cables, ran all sorts of tests via the hidden diagnostics
routines-nothing. I also called Lexmark, who were helpful but
ultimately decided that it was probably a bad 2501e card. I am
currently waiting for a replacement (used-a new card from Lexmark is
more than I spent on the printer AND the MFP unit!). I am also
planning too buy a new SCSI cable just in case that might be the
problem.

Did you do anything different when you got your one successful
initialization? f all else fails, you might try reinitializing your
card NVRAM, then flashing your card with the latest firmware (available
on the Lerxmark web site or on ftp.lexmark.com under print servers).
To reinit thhe NVRAM, do the following: from the menu, go to the
Network Option 1 Setup (Network Menu, Network Option 1, Network 1
Setup, Network Card). With "Network 1 Card" showing on the Display,
press the Go and Menu back (1) buttons at the same time to get to the
SE menu. Scroll to the NVRAM, select, then select "reinit NVRAM".
This will revert the card to origina factory default status. Then try
rebooting everyting too seee what happens. When I did this, I got a
weird 900 RIP software error the first time, which went away after the
second reboot, but it did not fix my problem. BTW, It is important to
turn the scanner on first, let the scan light bar do its thing, then
turn on the printer. This is the essence of what the Lexmark folks
told me to do. Good luck.
