How are you connecting to your desktop, via GPRS, Wifi to access point,
other?
Is there a firewall between your desktop and the internet?

I was trying to get a VPN connection via GPRS for a long time before I
discovered that although the phone carrier supported it, it was barred on
the accoubnts set up by the reseller with whom I had my mobile account.
