HI, im planing to build a new system(mostly for gaming/office work), i think i will use in it the ati x1900xt gpu (paired with Intel Pentium D 950 (3.4) cpu, and 2 gigs of ram-later on maby 4, but thats way later on ;) )

and now the question:

Will the ati's x1900xt last me for 2 or 3 years so( i mean till i wont be able to play anymore game because the card will be incompatible) i could be able to play games atleast on high(later on medium) Quality lvl's that will come out in 2007/2008

For those who heard about theis game: "Alan Wake" Do Yo uknow Wheather I will be able to play this game ith the 1900xt series gpu?
I know its a dx10 game, but will it look relatively good with playable ftp's?

Can you play 'high' settings on F.E.A.R or Oblivion on a card that came out in 2003/4? No. Don't expect anything different from a 1900.

With DX10 coming out in a 6 months I wouldn't advise spending quite so much on a GPU, but whatever you want. It won't be able to play DX10 games on nearly such good quality settings.

This question has been asked here maybe 50, even 60 times in the forums. Here's the summary:

-DX10 games should support DX9 shaders, but DX9 cards won't support DX10 shaders. (Yes, your Alan Wake is playable, but not with DX10, only DX9)
-No card out right now is DX10. (X1900XT will be running DX9 fine, but it can't run DX10, for simplicity's sake)
-DirectX10 is coming out relatively soon, provided Vista doesn't get held back any further. (If there's one more holdup, I'm going to rip off my hair in anger)

On a side note, make sure you buy a motherboard that's Conroe-compatible. Wouldn't want to get a shiny new motherboard and have to replace it soon.

thx i was thinking about that (the mobo) i was opting so far for asus p5wd2-e premium but it does not support cenrones so guess ill gave to wait ....till atleast 2007 and stay with my current (crapy/oldie pc...served me wel so far thou ;) ) and to be honest i dont think that ill get vista soon in 2007, althou wanted to get my hands on dx10 i just dont like it ....it looks 2 "pritty", and i dont really like its app categorising syste...it all reminds me 2 mutch of apples (which i dont really like)...anyways

btw when will ati's R600 come out? this year or next year? i hope they wont cost a fortune as always in the first 4/5 months form their releases lol ;)

actually if u grab the Intel Flagship mobo, 975x chipset thats the mobo intel uses for all the conroe benchmarks so it;ll work

I believe the new revision hasn't hit the streets, so it doesn't support Conroe YET. Next revision it should, I believe.
