Hi guys, I'm looking for some opinions. Right now im currently running a Dell 2007 FPW, 20 inch, however, I dont like the widescreen feel at all, way too used to a normal LCD. Im looking for something thats about 19' and will be good for high end gaming (currently running 2 7900gtx in SLI) Thanks.
I'd say you want at least 20" to take advantage of the SLi. There's no point in having that if it means you can turn on all the eye candy at 1280x1024 and get 100fps.
I'm personally happy with my Viewsonic VP2030b. And once I switched from a 19"CRT to a 20.1" LCD, I could NEVER go back! I can finally sit away from the monitor and still see everything. No more will I strain my eyes!
That 2007FPW have a max res of only 1680 x 1050 (1280 x 1024 max for 4:3), if you absolutely want/have to go for a Dell monitor, the 2405FPW Widescreen LCD has a max res of 2560 x 1600 (2580 x 1920) which is much more appropriate for SLI/Xfire.
The big reason is that SLI/Xfire solutions won't set themselve appart (to the naked eye) unless you start looking at insanely high (IMHO, I'm still on a 19" CRT with a max res of 1280 x 1024) resolutions.
pple these days... 20 inch widescreen... and no appreciation for them.
sry, but wen i got from a 17 inch CRT to a 19 inch WIDESCREEN LCD... im enjoying every bit of it.
if i had a choice... 20 inch lcd or lcd widescreen... ill definately go for widescreen
You missed my point (unless you did'nt intend to reply to my last post in the first place), this is not about the diagonal or aspect ratio, it got to do with the overall number of pixel the card(s) have to render.
The difference bewteen a single card and an SLI/Xfire solution will hardly be noticeable at 1680 x 1050 (even worst if he has to use 1280 x 1024 due to a game's limitation), that's why I'm suggesting a monitor that can actually support ungodly resolutions.

i was just saying in general, but yeah, i agree with hgierh resolution... come on, no ones wants to play at 640 by 400... or 800 x 600
tats just stupid... esp if you got sli... higher the better
I like the 15.4" widescreen on my laptop running 1680x1050. Too bad it only has a 6600go so I can't really appreciate it. My tower is hooked up to a cheapo CTX 17" CRT that I got for free from a friend of mine. It supports 1280x1024, but only @ 60Hz so I really can't play anything at that resolution (just run 3DMark06). The highest usable resolution is 1152x864 which really hurts the visuals in some cases although if I'm going to play a game for long periods I use 1024x768 so that I can get an 85Hz refresh rate. For example, I got crazy this past weekend and played Oblivion at full resolution on my laptop (with all other detail at minimum) and it looked surprisingly good and ran better than I expected (although I was running it "overclocked" (300/600) compared to Asus' stock (250/500)). The sharpness of everything (except the textures of course) was surprising. I'd gladly run Oblivion @ 1680x1050 on my main rig rather than 1024x768 w/2xAA, but a new monitor isn't even a possibility at this point and playing on my laptop introduces all other sorts of problems.
I guess the point of this post is: 1. I like widescreen, and 2. High rez definately rocks!
