Did you install the driver? It usually in the cd included in the package but if you purchase it as OEM then get the drivers from the manufacturers site. Well, it should work just by plugging it in your system, so it might be defective and you should return it if you can get it to work by updating the drivers.

I'm not sure how getting it OEM would make a difference. Try different brands of media, and try branded stuff rather than just the generic crap most people use.

My PC did not have a DVD player before or anything like that. I am thinking I need a decoder? If so what kind? I thought windows media would do it for me.

no dvds rnt decoded by WMP. sorry. The closest to that would be Power DVD, or WinDVD. I would assume 1 of those programs came with ur DVD Drive.

Inter Actual PLayer says that I need a Decoder to run the DVD's. Anyone know a good decoder I could buy ?

PowerDVD would work and so would Windvd.

Interactual Player is like another WMP. Its useless.

Do a Google for K-Lite Codec pack or just Media Player Classic, it plays everything (including DVDs)

If you're having problems playing DVDs then it's probably the software. If you can't play or burn DVDs it's probably the lens. Send it back.
