Hi guys,

I have recently been building a new system for myself and am finding it hard to decide which ATi Card to buy. Should i buy an X1800 XT or an X1900 XT.

I am asking this because i heard that if i buy an X1800 XT card now i have to buy the same card (X1800) in Crossfire Edition Master Edition and it won't work with an X1900 Crossfire Edition Master Card in Crossfire Mode.

Could you please give me advice as to whether this is first true, or if i can buy an X1800 XT now and an X1900 Crossfire Master Edition Card later to make them both work together in Crossfire Mode.

Please reply ASAP guys, Much Appreciated.

I have heard rumors the X1800XT slave works with a X1900 series master card, but not the other way around. But, I have also seen a couple people on forums say that it didn't work for them. I wouldn't plan on putting my money into that experiment based on the info I have seen; Safer IMO to stick to the same series.

If I had the money to consider crossfire, I'd just start with a single X1900XT instead, adding a master card if I felt the urge.

You can buy a refurbished 512MB X1800XT master card directly from ATI for $350. It comes with a 1 year warranty. Then add a second X1800XT later. Adding a slave card puts you at $600-650 for the pair. Problem is, a Sapphire X1900XT is almost ast cheap, brand new. I'd just go with that or a nice HIS X1900XT for $425 instead.

Wow, two threads in separate forum headings. Nice to see they yielded the same result.
