Are you intending to compare an Athlon64 in 32bit mode vs 64bit mode or asking about how an Athlon64 in 32bit mode would fare against an Athlon XP ?

I think that is what he's trying to say.

The point of my question was to find out which one of the two :

A64 32bit vs A64 64bit

OR

A64 32bit vs AXP

I don't have a clearcut answer.
But, I would like to point out that:

* The Athlon64 3200+ runs at 2.0 GHz

* The AthlonXP 3200+ runs at 2.2 GHz

but of course Athlon64 has an on-die dual channel DDR controller, SSE2 and SSE3 instruction thingys (Venice revision), and a HyperTransport bus instead of Frontside Bus ...

I don't know what these things actually mean, but it sure sounds speccy! Why don't you just look at Tom's Hardware CPU benchmark charts? THG Processor charts 2005/2006

The question isn't very well stated.

Here is how those options rank though:

1. Athlon 64 running 64-bit software
2. Athlon 64 running 32-bit software
3. Athlon XP running 32-bit software

In theory no but when you look at what they both got the XP3200's only advantage is clockspeed but the a64 3200 has 5x faster bus, an integrated mem controller, sse2 sse3 support, and better cache access time(atleast 5-10 nano seconds faster than the xp3200) So my theory is that even though it's slower it should be about even.

The two processors have largely different cores. Performance wise there is no competition unless maybe you are talking about one of the slowest socket 754 Athlon 64s vs. the fastest Athlon XP.

That's a little understated. I first bought an A64 3200 s754 edition. It replaced a xp-m 2500 clocked at 2.4 ghz (that's 200 mhz faster than the xp3200) Even at stock, the A64 outperformed the xp.

You missed "Clock for Clock" in my last post.

Regardless, a 3200+ A64 @ 2GHz would still spank a 3200+ AXP @ 2.2GHz.
I know but when you look at it it still amazes me that it can take on a northwood 2.8ghz , A prescott at 3ghz, and a northwood at 3,06 ghz wow i thought that the nortwood would own it at that speed.
