I hooked up my nVidia 6800 Ultra in my computer to my TV to try out some HDTV resolutions and I discovered that my TV does not do 1080p...but instead of resetting after 15 seconds like it said it would it now just sits there with a garbled display. I have tried hooking it back up to my monitor but I can't get it to work at all...so basically my question is this: is there a button I can hold or something while Windows loads that will reset all my graphics card settings? I don't know what to do and it's driving me crazy!

I googled with no luck and searched the forums here with no luck either. I'm not even sure exactly what to search for. Any help on this would be appreciated!

Thanks for both of your responses.

I've tried VGA mode and it does work, however, I cannot get into the nVidia diplay options to fix the problem because they dont seem to load...so as soon as I try to boot in normal mode the same problem happens.

And let me clarify, I can't see ANYTHING when it loads into Windows. Immediately after the Windows splash screen it applies the resolution that doesn't work on either my TV or my LCD monitor.

Any other ideas?

You can try holding the "Control" botton (Ctrl) during windows loading. If that doesn't work then hook up your monitor through the motherboard and then access the vga card setting there and set to the monitor settings and finally hook it back up to the card.

Make windows boot into safe mode. I don't know if there is an easy way to do it, but restarting the computer in the middle of the windows boot will get you there.
In safe mode you can try to fiddle with the resolution or uninstall the grafics driver.

Ok, I got the problem solved thanks to VGA mode and an s-video cable. I'm not sure exactly what did it but I must've only tried VGA mode when it was plugged into my monitor. For some reason when I did that it didn't let me change anything in the nVidia settings but then when I tried booting to VGA mode with the s-video cable attached it let me change things. Hmmm...wierd. Well the bottom line is that the problem is fixed!

Now on to my next problem...why the heck won't my sound work through the TV? I'm almost positive it has something to do with my TV because I have the analog L and R going into the correct inputs below my HDMI cable. If anyone can provide any insight into this problem that would be great (although this question might be better suited for a different category or something).

Edit: turns out I'm just an idiot. No surprise there really :)  I didn't have the sound turned up loud enough...it was on like 8 bars which I thought would be enough for testing but then I was sitting there trying to think of what else to try and I was like "Wait...I think I hear faint music..." Hahaha

Don't feel bad we all miss the simple solutions sometimes........
